Solve : Computer Hangs After completing Ram Check!?

Answer»

Been playing with this one a week now. To me it acts like the BIOS is corrupted. Heres the story. PC is 3 years old and been on for a couple of weeks working GREAT when I notice it's slowing down on simple tasks, so I reboot and right after it completes the memory check successfully the "Matrix Logo" appears then it hangs up. Rebooting and using the the F2 key will get you into the entering setup screen then nothing but a blinking DOS like curser and a BLANK screen. Next I stripped the machine down to barebones to see if I had a conflict, IE bad CABLE ETC. Even removed the one memory the the other but still can't get into bios, let alone boot from floppy drive. If I could boot from floppy I figure I could at least reflash the BIOS! Anyone have any Ideas?? I even changed out the power supply thinking it might be weak?
System is running a P4 Intel running @2.6Hz with a Intel MOBO D845BG
Thanks! In advance!I'm assuming it is a hardware problem. Hard drive might have failed, a RAM stick going bad, a short in the motherboard, or the power supply might be failing. Without diagnostic tools you can run from a bootable disc, the only way to figure out the cause might be to swap known good parts for the suspected bad ones and see if the computer works. If you can still get into the BIOS setup, make sure it shows the hard drive is working and reports the correct amount of RAM. If there are any diagnostic tools in the BIOS setup, run them. Thanks for the fast response! Great suggestions. I can't get into the bios at this time but I will continue to play with it to elimate the easy ones.
Thanks !
