Solve : COMPUTER keeps shutting down ? Is it the mem or the v-card??

Answer»

Winxp , compaq

First when i turn on my pc, sometimes the two lights on the case  stay green but the monitor don't turn on then the hdd light turns off  !! When it  does work and the pc login to the win if i try to install or run any progm. it shutsdown and reboots.
My question, is it possible that all  happen from the v-card , does the v-card have any thing to do with the win capability to run programs  ?  Or it's the ram mem.

Thanks .What specific model is your computer?  How old is it?  Have you made any hardware changes to it?  Has this problem gotten gradually worse or did it suddenly happen? Its compaq presario 7000 9 yrs old

I deleted all data on the  HDD then installed clean winxp! same problem happens.

i didnt upgrade anything !

Just keeps rebooting  then runs scandisk  for inconsistency and says somefiles been

trancated   as far as i remember .

I dont know if it the mem, v-card or hdd !?

Just i want to buy the right part to fix it mem, v-card or hdd ! Quote from: catkoot on February 16, 2009, 09:52:34 AM

WELL, it might not be any of those; it COULD be your power supply or perhaps a temperature/overheating problem.  Have you ever cleaned it on the INSIDE?  If not, it probably has accumulated a LOT of dust.  This can interfere with cooling, especially when the dust has clogged heatsinks on the CPU and elsewhere.

You still have the original hard drive in your computer?  Notice any clicking or other unusual sounds from it?  The fact that you were able to do a clean install of Win XP casts some doubt on the hard drive being the problem here.  Of course, hard drives can fail, but so can power supplies, and fans, etc.Buy  the power supply idea doesn't explain why the monitor don't work and the pc don't boot until i try many times !!  What version of Windows was ORIGINALLY on this machine ? ?win98 seIt probably cannot handle XP...sorry.
