Answer» Hi, My computer shuts down and I would like some suggestions on how to fix it please. I am running Vista 64, dual core. When I say shuts down, I mean the CP turns off, no warning, nothing.
I have opened the CASE and all 3 fans are running. I have installed heat monitor software and nothing gets above 53c. I have cleaned all fans.
I do not think it is a VIRUS issue, I ALWAYS update antivir and run DISK frag, ccleaner etc. I have removed all unnecessary hardware. I have fitted a different master HD with xp on and it still cuts out, so I do not think it is the HD, I also ran some software to check, no problems occurred. I have gone into the device management and there are no warnings there.
It cuts out after about 30 minutes, but I can turn it back on straight away, but it will then cut out in 10 minutes. When it starts again, it sometimes goes into scandsk mode. I think it is a hardware issue.
Do you think the heatsink on the fan has worn off? As some of you know, this is a pain to check and I have to remove the CPU, clean the HS, apply more and then install to check it! Memory failure?
Thanks guys Will.Good morning will108 and welcome to CH
Please supply some more info
What model is the PC (i.e HP a6400f or a custom built) if it is custom built what model is the MoBo (i.e ms-7105 etc) What model is the PS (power supply) and wattage What software was used "I have fitted a different master HD with xp on and it still cuts out, so I do not think it is the HD, I also ran some software to check, no problems occurred." When it is just about ready to shut off does anything happen error messages or BSOD messages Is it making noise "Do you think the heatsink on the fan has worn off?" Hope to hear from you soon, Mike Thanks Mike. I am at work, so I cant get some information. Model: Custom built by Image Publishing for one of there articles. I think Acer, but its a nice one. 4GB ram, 500GB. Power is about 550w, have checked and should be fine. HD checking software was a opensource generic one, will get the name soon, but as stated, the other HD did the same. When ready to shut off, nothing happens, its a shock, no freeze up, no slow down, nothing. I do not play games on it, just email, surf etc. Nope, no noise expect for the 3 fans working hard!
Thanks Will.I think it is the power supply! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IasTFv174Y I will post a fix if I get one. Thanks Will.Do some house cleaning first and maybe open the side panel when using the desktop.
