Solve : Computer keyboard/mouse not working after installing new psu&gpu!?

Answer»

Recently installed a psu&gpu. My computer is one of those pre-built ones so I had to upgrade the psu. After a lot of SETBACKS it has come to this. The computer when powered, does not beep [I read that this is bad]. The computer powers up and everything. Fans from the motherboard, psu, gpu+the extra fan powers up. Also the aspire logo in front of the casing lights up. The LCD monitor displays the Acer logo and the options; press DEL/F12 to set up etc. Problem now is that keyboard lights goes on [caps, num, scroll], after that the keyboard/mouse does not respond at all. I cannot use the keyboard/mouse to log in or even press DEL/F12. I can try and provide some more info you ask!

Here is the details of the computer

Sorry , got to ask...have you got the mouse and KB plugs in the proper ports?as karnac says are they pluged in correctly?
are they usb or ps/2?
are you sure the psu leads going into the motherboard are tightI think so, the purple plug goes to the purple hole and the mouse is a usb but there is this green attachment that has a usb on the back, and holes that looks identical to the keyboard plug. But I don't use the green thing I just plug the mouse to a usb port.
I'll try to read your input later!

Thanks for replying!!turn the computer off make sure the keyboard plug is firmly inserted and turn it back on

Um, hey I have to leave...but please don't think that this is not a big deal... I really want my computer to work!

THANK Youhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_swappingTry this and see if it works.....

Start your computer, wait until the screen come up where the KB and mouse freeze, then use the restart button on the front of the pc to restart it......in some cases the KB and mouse will start working after the restart....does that board take a four pin auxiliary power connector from the PSU?Quote from: smeezekitty on August 24, 2009, 05:52:36 PM

Hi! what do you mean by restart button, I think I only have the power button. The mother board I believe uses the 4-pin connector.

Notes: if it helps!
-Also I sort of tried messing with it. I tried to put the cable plugs to different locations.
Such as the keyboard plug being in the mouse port.
-Also I connected the VGA connector to original port and the DVI one to the graphics card; sometimes it beeped [once then two short beeps AFTERWARD; BUT it is not constant sometimes I get no beep at all].
-One time I kept pressing the DEL button and it went to some sort of setup but the keyboard plunked out by then.
-One time it showed me this black screen with this _ constantly blinking, when I press something in the keyboard the motherboard seem to emit some sort of sound; every key except the PRINTSCREEN key which made the motherboard beep
-Also, when I use the mouse of the old computer [I had to replace it because the left click, clicks to the slightest touch]; the laser seem to go on but it does not work.
-The GPU seem to get very very hot. Just a few minutes of the computer being on like [E.G. 4-7Mins]; The heat sink[it looks like one...not sure] NEAR the GPU gets hot as well, although the heat sink of the CPU does not seem to be affected.
-Also, the computer did not need the DVI to be connected in order for it to get a signal. Now it seems to have aquired the taste of the GPU's DVI port. It would not function without the GPU. I tried taking out the GPU and connecting the VGA to the original port but the screen shows not signal.
-Do you think the motherboard is defective some how? If so can I retrieve the old CPU and install it to a new motherboard?
-Do you think the GPU/computer is overheating?
-If you live in Richmond>BC>Canada, Does FutureShop/BestBuy offer services to fix computers? Maybe I could drop it. Also if you can estimate how much might it cost. I googled geek squad but they are ridiculous.
Keep the replies coming!
Thank Youon usb its fine
but on ps/2 do NOT do it
