Solve : computer memory conflicting with Video memory requirements?

Answer»

I'm still using an old kind of memory

Ex. CRUCIAL 512MB PC133 SDRAM 133MHz Memory

I'm wondering if I can use any of the latest video cards on it like

HIS Radeon X1550 iFan Video Card - 256MB DDR2, PCI, (Dual Link) DVI, VGA, TV Out

or will I have to STICK with the old video cards

ATI Rage 128 Pro Video Card - 32MB SDRAM, PCI, VGA, Video Card

yes, you can use new video cards. graphic card memory doesn't matter with your PC133 ram stick memory.

All you need is a PSU that supports the card with no problem and also you need to get the right kind of graphics card (PCI, PCI-E or AGP) otherwise it won't work.there is one caveat- a lot of new drivers introduce instructions that are only supported on newer CPUs/Motherboard and/or address IO-ports that don't exist.

For example- my old computer could not handle any card newer then my radeon 7000VE, and EVEN then I had to manually replace a driver file with the windows 2000 driver to get it working. Nvidia cards simply Blue-screen upon using any 3d functionaility, same with other ATI cards, like my AIW 9000.Quote from: mcxeb52! on November 12, 2008, 07:56:25 PM

o ok, thnks for ur help, but how do i find out which graphic card do i need? i tried puttin in my old video card ATI Radeonx1050 AGPx8 256MB DDR and that didnt work

i think it supports PCI but im not sureWhat MBoard is this ? ?Asus P4B Rev. 1.05http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/122/2/asus_p4b_i845_motherboard_review/index.html

1 AGP 4x (1.5v only) is what that above site says about your motherboard. I don't know if AGP8x is compatible with AGP4x, but I think so since it loks like AGP8x is just allowing for faster speeds but .... BETTER ask patio or someone to verify.I'm thinking of getting

1GB 168p: Capacity: 1GB
PC133 CL3
ECC SDRAM DIMM
(will this be compatible with the motherboard I'm using? don't know what does mean "CL3 ECC", something I should be worried about?)

ATI RADEON X800XT Platinum Edition (VIVO) 256MB GDDR3 AGP 8x/4x

http://www.tweaknews.net/reviews/x800xt/

on the cover it states AGP 8x/4x

good choice?
