Answer» Hello,
I was trying to fix a problem that my laptop had about the "display driver atikmdag stopped responding and has recovered" error. I went to a website that told me their take on a solution, tried it, and got myself into trouble. First off, I have a DELL Inspiron 1501 notebook with Windows Vista Home Premium. My processor is AMD Turion 64 x2 Mobile Technology TL-58 1.90 GHz. I have 2 GB of Ram and a 32-Bit Operating System. I also have an ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 graphics card that came with the computer. Anyway, I was told to download the ATI Tool v2.7 to fix the problem described in the first SENTENCE. They told me to mess around with the core speed and make it lower because that is what worked for them. So I was messing around with the tool and then I pressed settings and then the whole SCREEN went white with a darker shade of white stripes all across the screen. It was almost like a BSOD but not actually blue. So I forced a SHUTDOWN and then restarted. When I got to the welcome screen, my resolution had been changed and the screen started to get slightly choppy. When I logged on, the screen, after about a minute, became extremely choppy and I was unable to do anything because I couldn't see anything it was so choppy. I tried system restores and windows repairs, and nothing seems to fix it. I don't know what happened, but I'm guessing it was something to do with me messing with the graphics card tool. I will say though, that I can use safe mode just fine with no choppy screen. Thanks in advance for your possible help.If Safe Mode is fine, you may just need reinstall your video driver.
