Solve : computer not loading?

Answer»

hello all

I have a dell dimension 2400 that is about 3 years old.  It just up and quit loading.  There is no visual on the monitor.  I turn it on, the light turns green, the ABCD lights on the back are all green, the fan starts, then nothing.  I do not know if it is even going through POST.  The only time I can get a beep code is when I start in F8.  It is 1-1-2 (microprocessor register failure)?  I was told to take the battery out, put a jumper on c moss, start the cpu, shut down the cpu, take the jumper back off and put the battery back in.  I did all that and still nothing.  I have tried the monitor on a different cpu and it worked fine.  I had not added anything prior to this happening.  Not only is there no visual, just to see if it was loading and I could not see it, No windows starting SOUND comes out of speakers.

pentium 4 processor, 256 ram, 80g hard drive

Thanks in advance for any ideas! Quote

I don't think you did this right. First, just move the jumper over on cmos, leave there for about a 1MIN (shouldn't even take 30sec) just to be safe, then just move it back over to its original place. Then try to turn on your computer. Hope that helpsI think it's time for a new motherboard/processor. Unfortunately this is not cost effective for a Dell low end MACHINE like this, and the motherboard/connectors are proprietary.

Who gave you the advice? Taking the battery out for a minute will reset the CMOS right there.

Maybe Santa will bring you a new computer.
