Answer»

after leaving my computer on yersterday, there was a storm and then power WENT off, later yesterday i tried to power it up but there was nothing on the screen, but the fans are running as if it was on, then i unplugged the monitor cable from the tower and it displayed "check if the CABLED is connected" or somet hing like that, then i plugged it again the monitor went off again, please help!!!! Were you unplugging with the power connected ? ?
This is not a good idea.
Whenever you lose power the first things to check are the power surge strip if USING one and the power supplu itself.
Borrow a known good one of the same or greater wattage and swap it in there to see if the machine will boot properly...how about if the computer is no display but the monitor is good

Huh?The power supply might have cooked the motherboard and/or onboard video.

Alan <>< i tried removing some of the hardware one by one, after removing the modem it was working again, then i put it back again, it didn't power-up. what might the problem? You GOT LUCKY...many times when a machine takes a spike one of the first components it hits is an internal modem....
Your modem is probably fried but it may well have saved all the other far more expensive components.
Replace the modem.
