Alright, so here is what happened. About 6 months ago i started having problems with my network card (We can call it Card A). It disappeared, then when i unplugged the power cord and plugged it back in - it would reappear. About 3 months ago, it vanished again - and wouldn't appear no matter what i did. So, i did the logical thing and bought a new network card. It worked for roughly 2 months and the same thing happened. They were both LAN, so i tried using my wireless network card.
The same thing happened last week. I updated the drivers when it was visible, if i try to update it again now - it sais there isn't a network device at all. So I'm assuming it could be a motherboard issue, but I'm not so great with computers - so i wanted some advice first, on what could be the problem.
Below is the information i got when i ran DXDIAG :

Network cards are cheap. MOTHERBOARDS are not. Buy some more stonework cards, from a new source.,
Also, try to boot t the system with a 'live' CD that can find network cards. They are a number if Linux distros that do this. If Linux can not find the new card... if would point to the motherboard. It appears to me to be more a Windows issue than a mobo problem. I've never had a nic fail (without being physically damaged) and the fact that you have had 2 'disappear' in the space of a few months tells me it is likely a Windows problem. Is there any problem devices showing in Device Manager? i.e devices with an asterisk sign next to them. I noticed in the report you included there is network device identified, but there is no driver installed for it. Can you tell us the model of your motherboard, and the model of your network card that isn't working, as this may help us narrow things down. Are you using the same PCI slot with each card? Maybe try a different sot. Also NIC's are notorious for being the first thing damaged by a power surge. Make sure you have surge protection. Since you said the wireless card did it too I would consider the possibility of malware. Try using Comodo and see if it finds anything. If that doesn't help I would suggest a fresh install of Windows, especialy if you did an upgrade from Vista.
Good luck! Geek-9pm The last network card i tried didn't work at all. And it was brand new, so i figured buying more would be pointless.
thelaymanscomputer I've reinstalled W7 Several times, and still doesn't work. The model im using is ASUS p5kpl/1600. And a Intel Core 2 Duo CPU 2.80Ghz Processor
Joe3fl
I've tried using different PCI Slots, but still no cigar. I've downloaded Comodo and it didn't come up with any viruses / malware - So that isn't the problem. As i said to thelaymans, i've done a tonne of fresh W7 installs.
Thanks for all your responses, i HOPE i can get the problem fixed soon.It is not clear how you determined that it was not any kind of hardware problem. I do not know of any free or cheap software that can really find hardware failures on a motherboard. If you have found a way to do hardware diagnostics with OS constrained software, please let us know what it is.
The common experience of many is to use a method independent from the OS to identify hardware. This is often a utility that has to boot up the machine without the installed OS and probe the target hardware directly. The makers of some network cards provide such materials, but the are often specific to their brand of card. Is this what you did? And you found the hardware was working alright and therefor the problems has to be the OS?
