There are 2 clips which hold the heatsink tightly above the processor. One of them seems broken .
But still the existing CLIP is holding the heatsink tight enough. Can it be the reason for the problem?

Yep...could very well be the problem right here.

patio. 8-)The broken clip was indeed the problem. After fixing that, my PC is alive again. The lesson to be learned from this is that their shouldnt be any gap between the heatsink and the processor(Not even 0.1mm).The heatsink should tightly be mounted over the processor. If it's not the processor will shutdown your PC.
Thanks Patio and RAPTOR for all your help..
This is a great forum...

Congrats on GETTING it fixed...way to stick to it.

Seeya around,
