Answer» Hello computer world!
I bought this slightly used computer which is a Emachines T6216, with everything inside other than the hard disk Drive. The computer had an AMD Athlon 2.0 GHz CPU, with 2000Mhz FSB, and a 512k L2 CACHE, 512 Mb of RAM which is now 1G(256x4). I gave the computer a 40Gb drive for now and at first the machines wouldn't boot. So after about a week I found another CPU and thought I would try it and surprisingly the computer booted. So that meant the old CPU in there was bad. The new CPU being a 2.2 AMD athlon CPU works GREAT but when I installed or tried to install windows xp the computer shut-off and the power light blinked. Many retries and i finally managed to get the installation to install without it turning off but it still does it every time I use it. I really like this computer and wish to use it. I have read on another Forum that I might need a Bios UPDATE because of the CPU change. Is this true? and If so could someone please show me where to get this update and how to install it? And If not can someone help me solve this issue please? Instead of messing with a BIOS flash...which may or may not help things... Replace the CMOS battery on the MBoard...Part # CR2032 3 to 4 Bucks anywhere...Downloads & Support DOCUMENTS - Desktop / T Series / T6216ok patio I will try that thanks for reply. the Cmos works inside buty SHOUDL I reset it?It will re-set to the defaults when you swap out the battery...See p.52 of User Guide.ok i reset the cmos and it reset to defaults but it still turns off after trying to use it please help. Its a different CPU maybe i do need a bios update? If your BIOS setup recognizes all components installed including CPU, refrain from updating. Do this only as a last resort. You mentioned that you were able install XP but then shutsdown. Have you tried using another PSU? Any hardware changes could also cause this. Try also booting with minimum components installed. It's quite possible that MBoard doesn't support that CPU...but being an eMachine it may be a bear to find out what MBoard it even is...
None of the software solutions will work without an OS so you're looking at probably pulling the board out...
