Answer» Hello:
I hope I can find some help. I have a HP Pavilion ze2000 laptop. It has been a very good computer for me. RECENTLY, my original hard drive, 40gb Seagate, went bad. I purchased a Hitachi 120gb hard drive to replace it.... it was rated to work with my laptop. The problem I am having is my computer will turn it self off during the formatting portion of the Windows XP setup. This HAPPENED a couple times, so I ran a disk check in the start up bios. This took over an hour.... it checked out without errors.... the computer never turned itself off during the process. I tried loading the operating system again.... computer turned itself off. I never had any problems before with the computer turning itself off. This is new....
Any suggestions.....?Is this an original Windows CD or a copy of one ? ?
Have you tried it with the laptop battery REMOVED and only on AC power ?
Any power saving settings in the BIOS turned on ? ?OK....
During the Windows XP setup there was an OPTION to format QUICK or DEFAULT. Everytime I picked DEFAULT it would turn off. I tried the QUICK mode.... formatted and installed just fine without turning off. Don't know why this worked and the other didn't. I appreciate the advice and help. GOD bless.Glad to hear you are fixed up ! Just to be sure you don't have a drive problem...find out whose hard drive is installed in that laptop and DLoad and run the diagnostics from the drive manuf. website. This will eliminate or confirm the hard drive as a suspect...
