Answer» I wanted to install an xp 2200 cpu on a M848A motherboard on my brothers pc. He has an xp 1600 cpu in there and I wanted to install the 2200 since it's faster.
Anyway so I install the cpu.
When I plugged all the power cables back in and started the computer up, the monitor never came on. It just flashes and says no signal. I tried 2 different monitors. I know the agp card is in there tight. Still nothing. Tried a different vidoe card too.
So I PUT the xp 1600 cpu that I know works back in there and still the same thing keeps on happening.
Unfortunately I don't have a speaker cable for my CASE so I can't hear the problem.
Computer has windows xp.
The cpu fan spins, system fans spin, cd drive is powered up, hard drive sounds like it spins for about 5 seconds and then stops.
I tried clearing CMOS but nothing happens. In fact, it seems like I have to have it on the opposite settings for the computer to even boot up now. When the cmos is in the clear position, the system will boot, but when the jumpers are in the normal position, the system won't even power up. Whose MBoard is this ? ? (manuf.)
Will it take the 2200 ? ?I assume the motherboard is MADE by "pc chips"
Their website is www.pcchipsusa.com
The 2200 cpu fits in the slot, but like I said earlier the system won't show up on the screen. Everything powers up, cd drive, hard drive, case fan, cpu fan...but nothing SHOWS up on the monitor. My atx case didn't include a speaker cable so I can't find out what's wrong that way.
The manual said it will work with all XP cpu's and the bios is 5.0 (which is the latest version). I even put the old 1600 cpu back in that I know without a doubt worked since it worked yesterday, but when I put it back in after the 2200 cpu didn't work, the same problem happened, nothing on the monitor. I tried switching it with dvi and vga with the video card, but nothing happened.
I tried clearing the CMOS, but maybe I'm not doing it properly or something.
As far as I can tell, everything is snugly in place, all the power cables are hooked up.
No idea what's wrong with it. Are you saying you also don't get the MBoard splash screen at boot or any of the POST displays ? ? If so try that monitor on another machine... Next culprit would be the video itself...if onboard install a vid card to test ...There's no splash screen at all, nothing shows up on the monitor at all. I've tried two different monitors. There is no onboard video on this motherboard.
no post displays EITHER.
I know the two monitors I've used work. I've tried different video cards too.
Nothing shows up on the monitor either when I have no cpu in the slot (everything else powers up though)
I assume the motherboard is just fried.
