Solve : Computer won't open windows, freezes when it does.?

Answer»

I have a Dell xps m1330, running windows vista. A week ago after running almost perfectly, it gave me the blue SCREEN, I restarted it and it wouldn't open windows. Then I got it to open and after a a few minutes it froze. With the exception of one random occasion it won't let me do anything past 5 mins then it freezes. So I did the start up repair (a few times), I did the check disk (a few times), no problems showed up. Once on the start up repair it said it had a problem that couldn't be fixed. I haven't seen that message SINCE. It runs in safe mode but I don't really know what to do in that mode to help the situation. Also I don't have a disc for windows vista. I just got this hard drive from Dell about 6 months ago and I happen to still have my old one that doesn't work well but I put the old one in and it hasn't frozen yet and it's running with no problem. Does this mean I need a new hard drive again already?? Is there any other checks I should do or software I should get before I purchase anything?

Thank you

MelissaPost the entire BSOD message...include the gibberish...I can't, it only happened that first time and I haven't seen it since after many many many restarts...anything else I can do to help? So can anyone help with this? Download BlueScreenView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe to run the program.
when scanning is done, go to EDIT - Select All
Go to FILE - SAVE Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all of the content, and paste it into your next reply

However, if it only happened the one time and not since I wouldn't lose SLEEP over it.Thank you, I'll try that when I have Internet connection but it's still freezing EVERY start up, I'm just not getting a blue screen at all. Just chkdsk and start up repair, both are doing nothing for me Quote from: Melnic719 on March 18, 2011, 02:27:35 PM

I don't understand what you are saying.I'm saying that since this all started, the first time it shut down i got the blue screen, and now i can turn it on,  but it'll either not boot windows and freeze, or it will get me into windows and freeze within minutes. But the blue screen has never come back. So, yes, the blue screen only happened once but what I'm losing sleep over is the fact that I can't USE my computer still.  Also, I doubt I will be able to even download any software that will help me out because it wont work longer than 5 minutes...right now I have my old hard drive in, and it's working, but with errors. I'm trying to figure out if I can just buy a new hard drive and it'll be fixed, or if there's more to this. I guess with the limited information it'll be hard to figure out though.Your focusing on issues...instead of solutions here...
What happens if you boot into safemode ? ?
That should run long enough for a BSOD.No I came on here to find a solution, I'm pretty sure. Not sure what you mean by that. Im not familiar with how to find these solutions that's why I am here. Anyway I'll give it a try but I have to leave home for Internet to download the Bluescreenvision, it does work in safemode but can I connect to Internet in safe mode? I haven't used safemode before nowYes...
Use the safemode with networking option at bootup...
