Solve : computer won't start?

Answer»

Pentium 4 3.6GHz
Windows XP Media Center
ATI Radeon X1600
250 GB HD
2GB RAM

When I turn on my computer it loads Windows and then the Welcome screen with user login (when it is working correctly it usually skips the user login screen and goes DIRECTLY to desktop). I try to click on my name to log in and it will briefly flash my desktop background and then log off. I tried to start in Safe Mode but the same thing happens. Even after starting and restarting it several times nothing else happens.

In the last 2 weeks I've added a gig of RAM and upgraded my graphics card but had some problems getting it to work so I had to take it to Best Buy and they changed the BIOS settings. A few days ago I added a Netgear Rangemax 250 adapter for my router. I accidently unplugged the HD fan a week ago when I added a small fan for the graphics card and it has been running like that all week. I also upgraded my Sony Vegas program last night. I have been playing an online game that uses a LOT of resources and a couple of times got a Runtime error msg but a lot of people in the game have been complaining about that so I didn't think it was that important. I got one last night before I shutdown my computer but other than that didn't have any problems with it. I don't know if any of this is useful but I thought I should add every thing I could think of. If there is any important information I've left out of my description please let me know.

If ANYONE can think of anything I can try before taking it in to get fixed I'd reallly appreciate.
Thankyou,

Melanie

I'd recommend not playing any more online games. It is too easy for SOMEONE to connect to your computer and mess with it when you do. Some of the symptoms you DESCRIBE might be caused by such an intrusion. Buy a game system without a hard drive to with which to play online games, instead.
Good advice, as always, Doc! Quote

Learned from experience. You should see some of the stuff people whom i ticked off in chat ROOMS could do to my system! Mostly harmless things like restarting my computer of opening dozens of web browsers, but it taught me that someone who wanted to do harm could.
