Solve : Computers and part price drop?? |
|
Answer» Yeah, this is offs topic. Nobody wants to make a solid prediction. According to the Thailand Business Report, the recent record floods in Thailand have caused a 20% increase in prices for hard disk drives (HDD). IDC is forecasting that there will be a 25-28% shortfall. SSD drives can be expected to meet some of the demand. Are you going to wait? If not, why not? Quote from: mroilfield on January 15, 2012, 10:24:20 PM What are we supposed to be or not be waiting on?Will you wait for prices to drop before you build/buy your next PC? OR Will you start building a stockpile before pries rise and save some money on the next project. OR Just do nothing. When the times comes buy what you need and not fret over slight changes in prices. But you have to make a decision now! If it is between November and January I will watch the prices to see what happens. Any other time of the year I just buy it as long as I can afford it.Meh, if I need parts, I need parts.Ditto... BTW the HDD plants are back to 90% production...I built my desktop around three years ago (could find the build post I made to find out exactly how long it was but meh). I bought this laptop before that (Feb 2008). I've yet to have problems with either of them or feel that I need to build another PC. Not to mention, the point of a new build would typically be to use the latest and GREATEST components; i7/i5 wasn't yet available when I made this build, for example; nor was USB 3, or various other things. Stockpiling components because they are cheap would be pointless by virtue of you not getting the latest and greatest when you dig those stockpiled components and make a build out of them. If you want to make a new build, you buy new components- if prices are too high, you wait. For me, I paid a good 1000$ on this build and I intent to get my moneys worth, not throw another thousand dollars away on another build that won't actually make that big of a difference aside from a clean OS install. Or bragging rights- "Hey look at me I have a i7 i5 whatever" yeah, I don't care what my processor is and I don't care what people think about me using a "lowly" Q8200 with "SLOW" DDR2, because as far as I'm concerned it's still blazing fast for me. |
