after LOADING windows it shuts off, same place every time. It also does it in safe mode. My pc is an E machine model t3626 with a AMD Sempron 3800+ / 2.2 GHz processor.And what place would that be? And what happened between the last time the system worked properly and the first time it did not (new sw, hw, virus, etc)? He erased the harddrive and reloaded windows(he's done that before) after he reloaded windows when it restarted thats when it happened. I'm guessing that since he just did a reinstall you should do it again - and MAKE sure it's right this time. Insert the OS CD and boot to it, reformat the system partition, install the OS, install the chipset driver then all other drivers, install an AV utility, install all Windows Updates, then install whatever apps you want to. OK IDID as you suggested and erased the harddrive and put in the recovery disc that came with the pc, it has vista home on it. It says windows is loading files. Then it goes to the next screen which is a black screen with the microsoft logo over a small rectangle and then immediatly shuts off, just like someone pulled the plug. It won't load the os.
