Solve : Comuter Broke??

Answer»

When i turm my computer on i get this message;  "Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defrag, or back up utilities.  Check HARD drive configuration and ches for any updated drives.  Run chkdsk/f to check for hard drive corruption and then restart your computer"

I can't get it to do anything, it OPENS with above message.
Any suggestions?

At what point does the message appear, after turning on the computer?

Does it happen in Safe Mode?

Restart the computer, tap F8 until you see Advanced Boot Options... Select SAFE MODE

When it boots up, note whether the problem is corrected or not..It does the same thing in safe mode.
It begins with " a problem has been detedtted and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer."What's the make/model of the computer?

What operating system is installed?Dell Demension 5150C
Wimdows xpOn another computer, download Windows XP Recovery Console from here:

http://thecomputerparamedic.com/files/rc.iso

Download and install Image Burn, select "burn image to disc"..
to burn the .iso file to the disc.

Put the disk into your problem computer and boot off the disc..

Use the tutorial HERE if you're unsure...

Use this command when you're at the prompt in Recovery Console:

chkdsk /f

After it runs, remove the disk and see if problem is corrected..
I will try.  I may have to get on a different computer.
ThanksThat's what I said..  Use another computer to download the .iso file and burn it to disc..   Then take the disc over to the problem computer, and boot off the disc..    You might have to enter the computer's bios settings to change the boot order, but try booting off the disc first and see what happens..btw..   You might have Recovery Console on your Dell installation disc, but not all OEM discs have it..       At the right menu, you would select "R", to boot up the recovery console (whether or not you download it)What is different between the LAST time the system started properly and the first time it did not (new HW, sw, error, virus, etc)?No difference.  Until i got  the above messages.Okay. As a first step you want to boot to the Recovery Console as described above and run chkdsk /rI will have to check on that when in get home.
Thanks
