Solve : Conflicts between on-board/expansion slot card?

Answer»

I just bought a Dell DESKTOP and since I wasn't impressed with the sound card options that were offered, I selected the default on-board sound COMPONENT with the INTENTION of installing a better sound card in a PCI slot at a future date.

Does anyone know if the on-board sound processor and the sound card will conflict? With both installed, how do I ensure that the PC will use the PCI sound card for audio and not the on-board one? Do I have to disable the on-board one somehow (maybe in BIOS)?

This same question applies to on-board GRAPHIC processors and PCI/AGP/PCI-X graphics cards. Does the PC just know to use the card and ignore the on-board component?

THANKS!You can disable both the onboard sound and graphics adapter in the bios, how exactly you do that depends on the bios.
