Solve : Confusion over DVD Terms?

Answer»

This may be a ridiculous, stupid or easy question (not that, I have been told, any question is actually stupid) but can anyone tell me whether a DVD-ROM will play on a drive that plays DVD-video's and reads and writes DVD-R/DVD-RW/CD-R/CD-RW.

To put this question in context, I am thinking of buying PHOTOSHOP CS3, which COMES on a "DVD-ROM" disc.a DVD Burner will be able to read a DVD ROM.

The way I've always thought of it is as "levels". a CD-ROM drive is the LOWEST level, it can only read CD-ROMs. a CD-Burner, is the next level, and can also write to CD-R's and CD-RWs, and still has the ability to read CD-ROM discs.

The same type of LOGIC applies for DVDs, in that any DVD drive will be able to read DVDs, but only burners canwrite to DVD +-Rs or RWs.Thanks. I think that helps.
