Solve : connecting an ide harddrive to sata motherboard?

Answer»

:-?HELP!
have set up a new mother board and want to connect an ide drive to a SATA connection have bought an adapter kit from maplin and the system will not pick up the hard drive.

Do i need to have the jumper set for CABLE select or master ? (i have a maxtor drive)
on the adapter card should the power connection be on the left or right of the interface board as the connector is not coded and there are no instructions.

cheers alan
A picture would be helpful. Left and right are relational concepts. Have you contacted Maplin? THat might be best since they sold it.
JOY! have been back in touch and with a bit of trial and error have GOT there the drive needs to be set as a master and the adapter board plugs in with the sata cable on the left hand side as you LOOK at the back of the drive

THANKS
OK. Thanks for posting back.
