Solve : Connecting and Using All-In-Wonder HD?

Answer»

I have an All-in-Wonder HD (Radeon 3650) video card that I purchased last year and still haven't hooked up.  I'm getting close to putting it in a PC but having never worked with a card like this before I am having a hard time figuring out things that are probably very basic.  I hope you will help.

First, the card has an HDMI and DVI output.  I can't use HDMI because all of my equipment is too OLD.  My HD TV has a DVI input.  If I understand correctly because this card is HDCP ready its signal will be viewable on the TV when connected to the DVI port.  Is that true?

Second, since I can't use the HDMI connector I don't know how to get sound out of the card.  Is there a way in the software for the card for it to allow the computer's onboard sound to do the processing?

Third, when I hook my digital cable box up this card will it pick up all of the channels that I get?  Will the HD channels remain in high definition or are they CONVERTED to standard definition?

I thought adding this card was a pretty easy upgrade and a very SIMPLE concept to GRASP but the more I read the more confused I am about how it works and what it can do.

Thanks for helping shed some light on the situation for me.

MJGiven that you do have HDMI on the card output but are going to an older TV (which should most certainly have RCA). What about this:

truenorthThanks for the reply.  ATI support was able to walk me through a config that will work for me. Since the TV has a DVI input I will connect the video card to the DVI input (not sure if I will use the DVI out or HDMI out) and will then enable audio through the motherboard using the SPDIF out.

It should set up pretty nice.
