Solve : Connectivity problem?

Answer»

I'm having difficulty GETTING my Motorola phone to connect with my Compaq laptop running Win XP Home.

Initially I had to connect my phone to my PC ( via USB cable/port ), prior to SWITCHING on my PC, in order for my phone to appear as a modem in device manager.

After advice from HP I upgraded my bios which MEANS my phone is now automatically recognised in device manager under the view - 'devices by type'. However according to

www.helpwithpcs.com/upgrading/change-irq-settings.htm ,

under view - 'resources by type' you should be able to see all connected H/W. But I cannot see my phone or my cordless mouse ( though my cordless keyboard is listed ). Is this correct and do I have to look elsewhere for the solution, or is this the source of the problem?

RIs this phone compatible with your system to be USED as a modem?

FlameProbably not, although it does have GPRS capability, I just want to share music and photos.I suggest either reading the phone's manual or contacting your wireless provider.

I only want to know if it's correct or not for the phone to appear in my PCs device manager view - 'resource by type'.

My phone manual does not cover this and I don't think Motorola WOULD be able to help on this point.

If my PC is working properly on this point, then I have exhausted all PC possibilities and I think I WILL have to contact Motorola.

RWell, you could contact Motorola if you wish, but what I had in mind was the company that gives the phone service. Sprint, Alltel, Verizon, etc.

FlameSome confusion..... I'm happy to connect my phone to my PC via cable, but when trying to run the phone/PC synchronisation software, it claims the phone is not connected, so I'm trying to eliminate the various options to clarify it is a PC or phone problem.

RI'm sure you've checked to be sure the phone is on Here's an idea that I just got... Check the phoen settings, and make sure that the USB connection is open.

FlameUSB connection is set for data/fax.......

RIt's all enabled and everything? Any software you need to install?

FlameI've installed Motorla Phone Tools onto my PC, and updated to the latest version.

RStill nothing eh? Does Motorola have a help section where they list common issues? Maybe yours is there...
