Answer» My computer will start up for about a minute then shutdown on its on and start to restart. Then it will restart on its own again and again USUALLY not even getting to Windows. Then sometimes it will restart with the lights from the DVD-ROM and DVD-RW player on, but the power light is not on and the monitor won't display anything. I can unplug the power cord, and plug it back in and it will start doing the same THING. Eventually I can unplug it and plug it back in and the power light comes on and it will get to Windows for about a minute and then STARTS restarting on its own again. I think it may be a power supply problem. If anyone can help I would appreciate it.More INFORMATION needed.Info link:>http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htmMy computer is a home-built (not by myself, so I don't know a lot about it) it has a 1 Ghz AMD Athalon processor and Windows ME. And my main problem is getting it to stay on and not restart, if I turn it on and off enough times I can get it to start, but only for a minute. Can you start in safe mode?I'm having a similar problem. I took my RAM and video cards out to swap into my brothers computer to play some network games, but it proved to be too much hassle. So i put everything back in and it seemed fine. The following day i had using it normally for about an hour and it suddenly reset itself. Now, it wont boot, it gets to the windows loading screen and resets itself continually. I've tried safe mode, last known good config, every kind of booting procedure, booting from the win cd, evertime it tries to load windows in any form, it resets. I've tried running my hard drive in another computer and my windows desktop loads fine, i've tried DIFFERENT video cards and power supplies and i get the same result every time. I've tried resetting the bios, same thing. Is my motherboard busted? Is there any alternative to buying a new one? Thanks im running windows xp on an AMD athlon 2400, 128mb video card, 1GB of ram.I'm having a similar problem. (Re-seat all cards + ram & check all connecting plugs)My computer won't start correctly in safe mode either. I have also tried a boot disc, but that didn't work. Could it be that my CPU is over-heating? It does get closer to finish booting on the first try than any other.disconnect one of the dvd rom dvd cd/rw drives......what are the jumpers......ide cables set to.....
