Answer» HI im thinking about buying this PSU for my new build but i heard thers been problems with it sqealing when you run 3d aplications i was wondering if anone here had suffered from this problem. It depends on the load you put on the PSU. Quite a few power supplies will emit a noise when they're heavily loaded, the HX620 is notable only because it's a popular model so more people notice it.Ditto! Squealing is definitely a sign of a failing supply, , , one that's also overloaded. I recently had to replace a PSU in an HP PC that would not load Windows XP. The install would get to a certain point and then the PC would reboot and the install would start over again. After WORKING on it for a while, I took it to my own Computer Guru. He powered up the PC and almost immediately told me "this power supply is failing". He's much younger than me and could hear the high pitched squeal that I had not noticed. His shop is a lot quieter than mine too. He jacked in a new (and much larger) supply and the XP install FINISHED without incident. After installing a permanent replacement, I opened the failed supply to find several bulging capacitors. Not too long ago I scrapped out 14 failed PSU's and every one of them had bad capacitors. I'm now USING only Antec Earthwatts PSU's, with three 12v rails. You can never have too much power reserve, but you sure as heck can have too little. Good Luck, SHADOW |
