If you can using your PC go to majorgeeks.com[ google] & then scrool to system info, look for BELARC in system info. Download your info this will tell you everything you need to know> motherboard cpu ect. With that info you will be able to find another CPU. Sites to look for it  NEWEGG- TIGERDIRECT or last resort EBAY. Hope this helps you ?What you broke off what part of the L3 cache. I'd consider purchasing a new processor.

I've never HEARD of anyone breaking a piece of that off or what would happen if you used a processor that was broken in that manner, but I can't imagine the result would be good.If you mean these little things that you can see 12 of in this picture, they are not "CHIPS", they are surface mount resistors and capacitors, and they are for power supply smoothing, and also for terminating the bus in multiprocessor systems. (simple explanation - you need them in a system with 2 or more cpus.)

Since you only have 1 cpu socket on your motherboard, there is no possibility that you will ever need them.

Also, if the CPU was damaged, the system would not boot up and run. It may be that if you had a lower quality PSU than the one you do have, you might notice some instability.

Dias de verano, thank-you very MUCH for the info. That is exactly what broke off. I suppose I'll just continue to run my system and if I notice any instability I will then decide to invest in a new cpu. Personally I don't think you need to worry.

No it wasn't. Whatever made you think that? Anyway, as far as I know, of the P4/Celeron family, only the P4EE Gallatin core ever had L3 cache built in. It was on the core, deep inside the ceramic package, and if it was damaged, the processor would not function. Period.

Yeah, that's what made me think of it. I realized the mistake this afternoon while I was sitting there having lunch and thinking. One of the extreme edition ones had it on the OUTSIDE, I can't remember which though. I'll have to look it up.

Anyway, stupid blunder on my part.
