ABOUT A MONTH AGO MY FATHER IN LAW USED HIS WIFES COMP. IT HAD WINDOWS 98. HE TRIED PUTTING AOL 9.0 IN IT. THE VERY NEXT TIME THE COMP WAS TURNED ON , IT WOULDN'T GO PASS THE DOS PROMPT. NOW THE COMP WONT DO ANYTHING. THE CPU WILL COME ON BUT NOTHING SHOWS UP ON THE MONITOR. AND NONE OF THE DRIVES WORK EITHER. THE MONITOR LIGHT SHOWS YELLOW LIKE IT IS NOT ACTIVE. IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS I WOULD APPRECIATE IT VERY MUCH. THANK YOU   carol_atencio......Well I'm not surprised......ANYTIME one gets involved with AOL ......they're asking for trouble....
My best advice to your Father in law would be to format the computer....reinstall win 98 ....and reinstall the programs ........Is it possible to START the computer up in "Safe Mode " .....if so he may be able to SAVE his data to a cd and then do the format.....The problem with AOL is ...unless its been redesigned is that it replaces everything with its own versions of things. I know many people , who when hearing the name AOL go into fits of cursing and swearing......( I wonder why )
