Answer» I have not INSTALLED any new HARDWARE or software. But now when I put in a blank DVD into the DVD-RW my conputer crashes and reboots. I have uninstalled the primary and secondary IDE CHANNEL and REBOOTED. Windows reinstalled them but still have the same problem. The device manager shows no problems. The DVD-RW will play regular dvd's.
Equipment: Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105 VPR matrix computer with 1g ram
Thank you, BillG
Try a new IDE cable...How old is the DVD drive? When did this start? If it is under warranty, send it back. The DVD drive may have a warranty longer that what you think, depends on the brand. Does the system crash as soon as you INSERT a blank DVD, and the player "spins up" to try to read it, or does the system crash when you invoke certain software? The drive is out of warranty. It will crash as it is spinning up. I will try a new cable.
Thank you all for the great help!
