Solve : Crashed Computer - Need Backup Help? |
|
Answer» My laptop was RUNNING WINDOWS 2000 and it crashed. (so i have been told). I have the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH - it comes up when you start the computer and says its dumping the physical memory and then it tries to start windows, then comes up to the blue screen again and then restarts. It does this continually until you turn the computer off. Ok- I have the disc for windows 2000 and want to repair it. I have tried - either you have to have a repair disc (which I don't have) or to repair the console, you have to have an ADMINISTRATOR PASSWORD (which I don't have). I heard you can connect computers and backup the computer (so I won't lose data). I don't want to reinstall windows, because it will overwrite my files and data. Can you somehow back up the data or connect the laptop to another computer? I don't know how to. Can you do this in DOS? Can I stop the restarting and save my stuff? HELP ME!!! kris: The BSOD should display an error code followed by the word STOP that starts with a zero and an X and ends with eight numbers, or eight numbers and letters. Let me know what that error code is and i'll find out what the problem is and (hopefully) be ABLE to tell you how to fix it. Best regards, DocI assume that mean the code on the blue screen right? If that's what you mean, the screen goes by so fast that you can't even read what it says. We've had to watch the screen several TIMES just to GET the words "dump physical memory" The screen flashes by in under a second. Can you start in safe mode?no. I think I saw a number and letters. the erroe message?! c0000218Some light reading for you. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;156640Start with the memory 'chips' or modules first of all. Simply reseating them can help. If it doesn't, run MemTest86 overnight to see if any errors are reported. |
