Solve : Crashed Hard drive?

Answer»

Hi all,

My hard drive stopped being recognised on my XP System unexpectedly. I a couple of other computers and i tried putting the drive as a slave onto one of the other XP computers and I could detect the hard drive in the system's BIOS but could not detect the four partitions under My Computer.

Now im thinking that the drive hasn't entirely crashed as it does show up perfectly on the BIOS. I need a huge amount of data from the drive. Can anyone help?!Right click on my computer... Click manage... GO to disk management and click... Now where you see the partitions in the bottom right of the screen... Right click each partion and click mark partition as ACTIVE. Let us know how you go on.Hey,

Sorry for getting back so late. I tried that disk manager in XP but it shows nothing. 98 doesn't have a disk manager at all... i tried LOOKING for one online, but there's some external DOS COMMAND that needs to be present to use "dskmgmt.msc".

Any other ideas please? Quote from: kne0 on June 18, 2008, 01:55:44 AM

Does the hard drive have XP or 98? What file system (NTFS or FAT) does it use?The hard drive had 4 partitions, all FAT32, with XP and 98 both installed onto it. well as earlier posted, you said that you swap Hard Disk in other computer and your partitions showed right?

Try putting it in cable select jumper and boot up your PC.If this dosnt work try getting a older HD and install 98 in it. then slave your main HD and configure your BIOS to Primary pick the other HD as primary and your original one as secondary.

Hey Shaml...

I tried doing that also. Cable SELECTING the hard drive and putting it as a slave on a 98 machine. As I said, the BIOS recognizes the hard drive and 98 shows one of the partitions, but the others arent visible.
