Its a build list from a website i found. I want to upgrade the motherboard to one that supports 16gb of ram or more. I have already bought the case,cpu and video card. This will be my first custom built desktop. im ALSO upgrading the hd to 2tb and maybe a better dvd rw but i hard ever use disks anymore. PLEASE help. That looks pretty good but you are right about the motherboard, it is a very dated chipset that doesn't even support SATA III. I'd look at something with a 970 or above chipset from a brand like GIGABYTE or ASUS. You can always link some board here for us to check compatibility of.
As far as the DVD drive goes, just get the cheapest you can find - Nowadays there is almost no difference between DVD+RW drives and as you said, you rarely use it.
