Solve : D: Drive to C: Drive? |
|
Answer» I have a 2nd computer that I want to BASICALLY USE to upload all my cd's to and use with my stereo system. I've already stripped off most of the unnecessary stuff but still have my Windows XP operating system. My question is, when I go to upload my cd, it's running on the D: drive and not the C: Drive. My C: drive has a 20GB hard drive. The D: drive is all my backups. Can I delete my D drive? How can I GET this to operate on the C drive only? I'm about to grab a really large magnet!! *LOL* Perhaps the Ddrive became the MASTER and the C the slave? Would that CAUSE my problem to occur? Would switching them help???Are you trying to copy the files from the CD to the Hard Drive of the spare computer?Well Music files yes .but i get a low mem warning all the time ..when i went to see why i found that windows was runing on D ..and not C ..C was the master drive and d was for my back ups .i am trying to get C drive back to the master driveSo there are two hard drives in this machine? And Windows was only ever loaded on the first hard drive? I am just not clear on this at all. ...I am just not clear on this at all... Same for me! ive tryed that it will not let me take anything off it said end runing prog ..but there is nothing on but windowsPlease answer the questions regarding the actual number of hard drives, etc. that we asked. We cannot help you at all without knowing the problem or the specifics. When I go into "My computer" there are two hard disk drives listed. C and D. As far as I know, windows was only installed on the c drive. I've tried to reformat, but since the comp is operating on the d drive it tells me to shut down everything else before proceding...that there is no memory avail to reformat. Hope that helps. *L* Assuming that both drives are the same type (IDE, SATA, ATA, etc.), simply switch drives on the controller cable, and if not already done, set the jumpers on your former D: drive to master and your former C: drive to slave. Make sure you have enough room on your system drive for the operating system overhead and pagefile/virtual RAM. Make sure you are formatting the correct drive. Most systems will not allow you to format the boot/OS drive. Dellif you are going tot install Windows you eithere need to do it through a boot disk or a bootable Windows cD. You cannot do it while in Windows, ever! What version of Windows is this? If XP, boot with the cD in the drive.Kris: To check if there are two hard drives or one with possibly two partitions, do this: 1. Right click My Computer and choose Manage 2. In Computer Management, click Disk Management in the left pane. 3. In the right pane, if you see Disk 0 and Disk 1, then there are two hard drives. If you just see Disk 0, then there is one hard drive. 4. If there is one hard drive (Disk 0) then are there two partitions (one named C: and one named D:) or just one? Let us know what you find.
