Solve : Damaged cpu??

Answer»

I was wondering if some one could give me a couple basic steps to pinpoint whether or my cpu is working.

My power supply works.
The power switch on my case works.
The heat sink fan works.

My keyboard does not light up.
My mouse does not like up.
I cant get on board video (bios) to display.
I have a video card that I cant seem to get a signal though to the monitor with.

OS:WIN XP
Motherboard:
Gigabyte 945gcm-s2c
Cpu:
Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz 800MHz 2MB LGA775
RAM:Corsair VS512MB533D2 512MB DDR2-533 (2 STICKS)

My guess would be power supply or the board. Check all connections firstSounds like the motherboard to me
But start with the free options... Can you get a old power supply to try and test it with? Quote from: xavier on March 10, 2009, 04:52:31 PM

This is a brand new out of the box mobo.

I guess I can go buy one try to a new power supply. But what is the theory behind the power supply? I'm guessing that maybe you guys are suggesting that maybe its not powerful enough?

It can still be bad if it just powers the fans and stuff.  Just because its putting out power doesnt mean its good.  Can you try to get a free power supply to test instead of buying one?  And wouldnt it be easier just to return the other power supply instead of buying a new one if you really have to?Did you build this ? ?I would guess thats a yes (at least someone did) due to the motherboard Quote from: computeruler on March 10, 2009, 07:15:38 PM

I've had to replace several power supply's in the past..Most of the time when they go out they pop and smells like electrical fire or something. That wasn't the case here.

No I cant get a free one. I guess I could try to return the one I have back to micocenter. Its been about a year though.

Yes.So if I try a new power supply and still nothing. Whats the NEXT step? What happened before the problem occured Quote from: computeruler on March 10, 2009, 07:24:36 PM
What happened before the problem occured

This all started 5 days or so after I had to replace my old power supply with the existing one I have now.
I replaced the power supply with success and everything worked fine. Then about a week later I cant get bios or ANYTHING to show on the moniter.Just a black screen. When I disconnect the vga cord it will give me the "no signal" message.I would say its the power supplyThx, I think I'll try to buy a newer one then.

If its not the PS when what would you suggest? Motherboard Quote from: computeruler on March 10, 2009, 07:17:50 PM
I would guess thats a yes (at least someone did) due to the motherboard
