Solve : Damaged Ethernet Port?

Answer»

Hi all...... Looking for some help here. I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop with a damaged ethernet port (someone tripped over it while PLUGGED in, DEFINITELY broke some of the connections but mother board seems to be ok). I am looking for a way to connect to my ISP without the EXPENSE of repair. Will an external adapter work, say a Belkin external ethernet express card work??? Any suggestions will be much appreciated!!You have some empty PCI slots, right? Then, get one of these:
Network Interface Cards (x) > Interface : PCISoybean, it's a laptop.
If you got a pcmcia slot in that laptop you can get a pcmcia network card.
Dell inspiron 5100 has a PCMCIA slot so that would work.
But I would suggest a usb adaptor.
I believe a USB adaptor is cheaper.

Soybean, it's a laptop.
Oops! My mistake. Thanks to all who offered help......will look into both options! And if you choose to go the PCMCIA slot route check your owner's manual to determine which type you have...Wow, didn't know there was any different Pcmcia slot distinctions. Any idea what a Dell Inspiron 5100 might have? I misplaced my manual when I moved......->Google<-
