I changed the HDD after the system was infected but when I did I noticed that the system ran slowly, Windows was slow to load and kept complaining of date and time settings. When I tried to change it in the BIOS setup, it wouldn’t change but after a series of restarting it would work. Also, at times it would be difficult to browse the system because open windows would be minimised. Although it is still possible to change the time and date at the taskbar but the clock would still be slow. I've tried changing the RAM twice and it’s still the same. I am going to make some assumptions on what you’ve said here. I assume you are using some form of Windows OS and that your clock is still slow after adjustments. It doesn’t sound like just a CMOS battery issue, more like a virus. First though we need to know some things: What OS are you using? E.g. Windows XP. Do you have any anti-virus software INSTALLED? You SAY that you have changed your hard drive; did you make a clean installation of Windows or just copy the files over to another hard drive? If you reinstalled windows... 1. Chipset drivers? Did you install them before anything else? 2. no Graphics drivers can cause a system slowdown, jittering windows and scrolls.actually the hdd i replaced it with was 'ghosted' and i tried changing the date and time settings in setup and also changed the ram twice. the build uses windows xp but all things on it have been pre - installedXP is going to be slow on 256Mg of RAM...period. Also if there were issues with the original Windows install the "image" has carried them over to the new install...I think that you mentioned that you also have a problem with date and time. I suggest you to unplug your PC from power SUPPLY, wait 2-3 minutes and when your PC is started check for the date and time, if it is WRONG change the CMOS battery and the problem will be solved. Cheers. the cmos battery has been changed and the image has been used well over 30 times with no hassle...so wat could it be?Quote from: patio on April 13, 2009, 07:12:03 AM XP is going to be slow on 256Mg of RAM...period.we have a lot of pcs here with thesame components....neva eva been this slowThat may be true but this has always been my experience...issues with Date/Time persistence indicate either a dying BIOS battery or a failing/cheap power supply. Why the poll?Flash BIOS advice removed... |
