Solve : Dead USB's?

Answer»

All USB ports are registering on the devices in control panel, but will not recognise card reader. it does recognise the printer.
installed a 4 port card and that does the same.

looked for any drivers that might be needed, but the Motherboard SEEMS to be too old for updates.

Any SUGGESTIONS would be apreciated. What operating SYSTEM and service pack level are you operating at; e.g. Windows XP Home SP2?

What is the make and model number of the computer, if "brand name"; otherwise make and model number of the motherboard?

What does "All USB ports are registering on the devices in control panel" mean?
Are you viewing them using "Device Manager"? Under the "Universal serial bus controller" category or what other category? Any yellow or red error flags in the Device Manager display? What is the "Device status" for those ports?

Did the card reader COME with the original computer? Is it built in or installed in the computer case or is it an external device connected via an external USB cable? Is it supposed to be USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 device? What is the make and model number of the card reader?

Does the "card reader" show up anywhere within the Device Manager display? Is so, what is the "Device status" for the card reader?
