Solve : device not recognized?

Answer»

I have a tomtom navigation deice that I want to connect to my computer, now it shows up in the "devices and printers" area but it is not recognized by my computer, it will be recognized by a windows xp but it does not show up in windows & I would appreciate any help I can get with this, I have been to the manufacturers website, talked to support and to no avail, so if anyone has any ideas I would like to hear them thanks Couples of things to check:

1. Is the TomTom fully charged. Sometimes if it is dead, then it wont be able to connect (although connecting should power, but there could be a USB problem, see 2.)

2.Try a different USB port. I know DELL gets dumb and puts USB 1.0 ports in the front, and 2.0 in the back. 1.0 does not support everything, and TomTom may require 2.0. So try all USB ports on the computer.

3. As simple as it sounds, MAKE SURE they are secure. Make sure the connection into the computer is good, as well as the cord going into the GPS.

I have SWITCHED usb ports it is fully charged, the thing is I don't understand is it shows up in the device manager but not in the "my computer" window computer doesn't "see" it in the "my computer" window like other drives, (tom tom has a disk drive) that is the quandry Have you installed the TomTom Home software?
