EDIT: I read your post too quickly. As far as I know, there is no PC400 memory. But, PC3200 = DDR400.then why do these companies put 3200 in the memory if they are the same with the ddr400?I mean the difference between DDR400 and the DDR 3200? Because I encountered a system error when I used a 512 DDR400 memory because the PREVIOUS memory used was DDR3200. Is there difference in the FREQUENCY between the two?I understand your CONFUSION and, believe me, I THINK the people who came up with this confusing nonsense ought to be shot! Phew!

Many older motherboards had trouble running EDIT: memory at their fastest advertised speed and many could only do so under special conditions.
