Solve : DISCover.exe?

Answer»

I have a popup when powering up my computer... It reads:

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Program: C:\programfiles\DISC\DISCover.exe"

This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."

I also find my DVD burner will not read the DVD at all. For background, this happened right after I attempted to install a second CD burner, and plugged it in to the existing slave cable connection. Couldn't get it to work, and thats when the popup BEGAN. Removed the second unit, but the popup continues.
ANY SUGGESTIONS how to alleviate the popup, AND get my DVD burner functional once again? It's the ORIGINAL burner that came with my HP tower, if that helps... And it worked fine prior to my messing with things.

That is odd. Have you tried System Restore?
Do you have any virus PROTECTION?

When you tried to install the CD burner, did you check your jumper settings?No, I failed to check the jumper settings. Just another computer nerd "wanna-be"...
Yes, I have 2 types of anti-virus running, plus I ran Spybot and it found nothing wrong.
If I use System Restore, will I lose data in any way? No.
System Restore doesn't touch any files that are not part of the OS.
The burner you use most should be master with the other one slave.
The jumper pins are between the IDE slot and the Molex power plug.
There will be very small hard to see diagrams on the burners to indicate the settings.Quote from: Rumrumm on November 23, 2008, 07:18:09 AM

Two antivirus progams running on the same machine is BAD. Please remove one of them.
