Answer» when start my computer i get DISK read error occurred; Hit Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart; Then the same thing happens again, and again and again.
I am running 2 HD's primary is 160 GB Maxtor (this is 1 that failed) and 20 gb Western Digital. I unplugged power to Primary just to reboot and get in the net. Primary runns WINDOWS XP, secondary run window me, I've been in set-up and tried everything, reboot from disk, can't get HD to start even in safe mode. My thinking is, If I get to access the HD then I can PERFORM scan disk to fix errors. Any suggestions??First i would DLoad and run the diagnostics from the drive maker's site to make sure the drive is healthy,
Next if you can only boot to ME run chkdsk on the offending drive from there.
Last RESORT: Repair Install of XP
I suggest reading it through first to get familiar paying special attention to the warnings and then printing out a copy for reference.
Backup any data you can't afford to lose before proceeding...
