Answer» I don't how to fix this. My computer hardware driver is a Radeon 9200 and when I play this graphics heavy game after a while everything turns black and I get an error message saying Your Windows Display Driver has stopped working and gives me a note saying the ati2dvx driver has stopped functioning normally or something like that. Then everything freezes and the only thing I can do is reboot. How can this be fixed? Do I need a new driver? I have a Windows XP Home Edition. Whats the most effective method to prevent these screen blackouts and failed driver from happening again?
I did check ATI's website and am downloading
Catalyst® 6.11 Display Driver for Windows XP Professional/Home Edition
but I have not yet installed it. I don't know if its safe to install this and if this can prevent the failure from happening again. Advice please.

This problem would occur in many games for me, mostly in World of Warcraft, at certain points in the game (funny, I know) I did two things to try and solve this.
First, as street stated, I un-installed and re-installed new drivers; but to no avail.
Second, I resorted to lowering all my video settings as I approached that point in the game (Nef's Lair for WoW nerds ). This seemed to make the problem leave for good.
Are there certain points in your game where this happens? If so, try lowering your settings before this stage.
Later on I switched to Nvidia anyhow

The problem is I don't even know if I have all the stuff they ask for since I don't know how to check on my system. But can someone tell em which graphics card I should buy that will allow me to play these games on HIGHEST quality performance settings since I really do not want to lower my settings for these games. I saw some computer techs who played these games before but when they played it on their computer it ran as smooth as silk (it was like a movie on their computer!) while my PC has choppy frames at best and a slow moving slideshow of pictures at worst when I run these games at the highest setting.An old video card may not be the only thing holding your system back, I need to know what hardware is running in your system.
I believe there is a program called Everest that lets you look into the hardware of your system, I'm gonna have to ask around to confirm it or wait for someone that knows what i'm talking about to join the topic.

Also, to check your RAM and Processor by hand:
Go to My Computer -> Control Panel -> System, and click on the "General" tab
To check your video card right click on your desktop, click on "properties" and click on the "Settings" Tab, it should show you your running GPU.

Yes, you need to determine whether you have PCI Express, AGP, or perhaps only PCI. PCI Express and AGP are superior to PCI for video cards so go with PCI Express or AGP if that's available. And, of course, be sure to buy the appropriate type card; cards are made for specific slots (PCI Express, AGP, or PCI).
