Solve : Do I need a new Motherboard?? |
|
Answer» Yesterday my husband and I were cleaning the fans in our computer, including the CPU fan. Now when I try to start up the computer all the fans run and the cd-rom drive works but there is no picture on the MONITOR. I tried a different monitor and I reseated the video CARD and RAM. The monitor is still blank. So I am wondering if my husband may have done something to the MOBO while putting the fan back in?So, the CPU fan and heatsink were removed from the processor?yes, and I'm afraid that maybe the motherboard was damaged when the fan was put back inAre there more than one connector for the monitor on the back of the machine ? ? If so power down and hook up to the other one...Quote from: melissalynne7 on August 13, 2007, 03:24:47 PM yes, and I'm afraid that maybe the motherboard was damaged when the fan was put back inOr, the processor could have been damaged. Was thermal paste applied to the processor before re-mounting the heatsink on the CPU?I hooked up the monitor using the other port, still no picture. No, thermal paste was not applied. Any suggestions? Thanks, MelissaI took the heat sink off again to see if I could find any problems. Two of the little prongs are bent and I cannot straighten them. Could this be the source of my problem?could be a possibility, but im not sure. but it is also sugessted taht you put on fresh thermal paste. It KINDA needs it lol.Quote from: melissalynne7 on August 13, 2007, 04:52:26 PM I took the heat sink off again to see if I could find any problems. Two of the little prongs are bent and I cannot straighten them. Could this be the source of my problem? It sure could. And, if you can't straighten them, you've got a ruined processor. Even if you can straighten them, it may not work. Here's a reference: Installing a CPU and Heatsink, or Installing Memory, CPU and Heatsink . And, regarding the bent pins: Bent CPU Pins and How to Fix Bent Pins on a CPU. And a reminder, a proper application of thermal paste between a CPU and heatsink is necessary to prevent overheating, i.e. heat damage, of a CPU.Quote from: melissalynne7 on August 13, 2007, 04:39:20 PM
