Solve : Do I need to update my network card??

Answer»

I have 5 computers networked and the oldest computer is slow, despite having virtually nothing on it, nothing in start, and cleaned REGULARLY with System Mechanic 6 Pro.

The modem in this machine is a 56k IBM data fax modem, with a driver date of 7/1/2001.

Would the speed increase (page load faster) if I changed to a more modern network card?

SandySo, the other computers all have onboard or add-on network cards? And, you're got the old one networked via the 56K modem? Hmmm, exactly how does that WORK? Are you using a ROUTER for the network? If so, how do you connect a 56K modem to it?

I gather you really want a faster Internet connection with the older computer. So, yes, a NIC such as D-Link DFE-530TX+ 10/20/100/200Mbps PCI Network Adapter 1 x RJ45 - Retail would serve this purpose.Quote

I understand, you can network the 5 computers using a few NICs and a 56K modem, but are you using the 56K modem to access the internet? If yes, getting a new NIC probably will not BOOST your networking experience very much. You would need a broadband connection for a "page to load faster".True, I was assuming she has a broadband connection. Perhaps that's not the case.Yes, I have a 3 MG. embarq DSl conection. I did share my connection through a D-Link rourter, but switched that out for a TPiLink switch. So the 58K card that is in the machine should up updated. It works better in safe mode. If I cold make the windows I open smaller in safe mode I would just do that.
