Solve : Don't really know how to explain this...?

Answer»

So I have had this problem for a while now and have just been working around it I guess but it is very annoying and can't seem to figure out what is wrong.

I switched from Windows XP Pro to Vista Ultimate and now my video RANDOMLY crashes I guess. I'm not really sure of the technical term but it happens with various actions: maximizing streaming video, opening pictures, starting up games, closing Winamp, once it happened when I clicked on the "Shoutcast Radio" tab on Winamp. Basically what happens is my screen goes black with brown horizontal stripes or grey, then it goes to a light green color with black horizontal stripes.

I then ctrl+alt+delete to open the task manager and I can get back to my desktop without rebooting.

I don't get any error messages. I have updated my video card, motherboard and monitor drivers. Any help WOULD be appreciated.

System:
Intel Core 2 CPU 6400 @2.13 GHz 800MHz
1022 MB RAM
64-Bit OS
NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT/GTO

Here are some pictures of my screen showing what happens:

Not much RAM for a 64 bit VISTA system. If you can not put in at least 4GB, there is not much advantage to using the 64 bit system.

You must have the RIGHT 64 bit drivers for ALL of the hardware. Close does not count. The video card is failing. So is the answer just a new video card? Or more memory? Or what?Quote from: JoePoz on April 08, 2010, 09:14:18 PM

Trust me... lack of RAM will cause Out of memory errors. Not graphics corruption. None of what geek-9pm said seems remotely relevant anyway.Quote from: BC_Programmer on April 08, 2010, 09:24:36 PM

Gotcha. So do I need a new vid card? Or is something else making it fail? When I check my vid card in devices it says it's working properly (not sure if that matters).Quote from: JoePoz on April 08, 2010, 09:29:26 PM

It's either the card or the driver, but to be honest, I've seen this sort of thing dozens of times, personally, and every single time it was a problem with the card itself. (and "this device is working properly" just translates to windows being able to load the driver, doesn't mean it's working, heh. it could be on fire and windows would happily report everything was a-ok. Ah ok, well I don't think it's the driver because I've tried the old driver and the newest driver and neither works. So I'm guessing it's a problem with the card itself. Thanks for the help.
