Answer» I have been trying to reformat my hard drive was windows xp was originally 98?? bought from gateway POS . I can get into DOS and fdisk to create partition but cannot restart DOS to c\save changes I have made. I have tried exit shutdown restart and any of those combos but am unable to restart DOS to save what I have with the partitions in order to reformat it HELP Hey, you can't use the OS on your hdd to fdisk/format/reinstall on the same hdd. You must either (a) use an OS CD or (b) use a BOOTDISK. If you managed to fdisk your hdd USING the OS on the hdd you have probably written off the OS on the hdd.
