Solve : Drive-by Downloads!? |
|
Answer» This message was in the notification box at the bottom of my AVG 8.0 window: The number of poisoned web sites is increasing. 1 in 1000 web pages are infected with malicious drive-by downloads. You know, those malicious drive-by downloads. Yeah, the kind that turn off their lights and CREEP up to your house in a lowered pimped-out old Buick before opening fire with sub machine guns and such. What happened to the days of "I'll see you on the playground after school and infect your ###"?!what do you mean?quaxo... Have you been Nooooooo.... I just thought the term "malicious drive-by downloads" sounded funny...Quaxo drugs are baaaaadMany of the threads in the malware removal forum are results of drive-by downloads. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drive-by_download http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/community/columns/driveby.mspx http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/03/13/mass_compromise/ There should also be a definition for drive-by posting..... 1. People who post in threads with irrelevant or incomplete advice. 2. Anyone who replies to a post simply to bump their post count. (also known as spam replies) 3. Posting copy and pasted answers in an attempt to look intelligent when you actually have no idea what your talking about. well, I think the whole reason it sounds funny is you don't "drive" through the net. a more appropriate term would probably be "surf-by" or "browse-by". Thank you BC. That was exactly my point. I'm GLAD someone finally understands. And- come to think of it, with a real-life drive by the Driving party is the one performing the aggression, rather then the victim, so in reality a "drive-by" download should (if we wanted to be technical) be considered essentially remora that attach to your surf board (computer) as you surf across the ocean of the internet, slowing it down... thankfully, my surfboard is Mozilla brand, and it has a fairly EFFECTIVE anti-remora coating. (mostly facilitated with more secure ActiveX)Normally the driver is not the one with the uzi... Quote from: patio on July 22, 2008, 09:29:13 AM Normally the driver is not the one with the uzi... but I can assure you, in 90% of all cases, the ones with the weapons are in the car. Except for a few cases where the one packing heat is being pulled in a small red wagon, just to disorient their victims. Of course, all one needs to do in that case is stop their car somehow, and the wagon will crash into it, and then (if movies are any indication) the wagon will burst into flames, also igniting the gas tank of the car, which subsequently explodes. Flaming debris will hit a nearby hedge, lighting it up like a christmas tree. A Bird nesting in that tree will catch fire and fly frantically away, dying in mid-flight and falling into a nearby houses basement window, where there are several PILES of oil-soaked rags for no reason, which ignite, setting the house on fire. It's also the 3rd of July, and the closet is filled with fireworks for the next day. The fire ignites the fireworks, resulting in several explosions, and several fireworks go flying out of the house, where they set fire to the oil tanker that was stopped at a nearby house to fill up their Oil furnace. This goes up in flames, causing a catastrophic shock-wave that breaks the windows in all the nearby houses. Hearing this, the old neighbor pokes his head out and yells, "Turn down that music you dang kids!"
