Solve : Drive or driver problem??

Answer»

Hello

I have a laptop which seems unable to READ from a CD ROM (the Toshiba internal diagnostics tool reports 'fail').

How can I determine if the CD-ROM drive needs to be replaced, or whether this is a driver problem?

Thanks

Does this happen with All discs?Yes, it struggles with some more than others, but NOTHING is audible.

Thanks for your post.

SteveSteve...

You can try updating the driver or the firmware for the drive in question to see if this fixes the issue.

It wouldn't hoit (hurt)... I would suggest updating the driver as a start.

Yes, good idea.

I'll try it and maybe post back if it continues to be a problem.

Cheers

Sorry, buddy...I'll REFRAIN from interrupting in the future... It's all RIGHT...but do try Hello

I downloaded the drivers, but it will not allow me to specify which folder the drivers are located in - so the computer can't see them.

In the hardware wizard I BROWSE to the folder in Program Files (I can see the folder the drivers are in), but I can't open it.
