Answer» For some reason none of my drives (Hard Drives and an Optical Drive) are getting power. I have checked all molex connectors with a multimeter and all of them are fine, but still, the drives will not power on.
The only thing that I can remember changing before this happened was that my mom kept yanking my power cable so I would not get on my computer when she didn't want me too. That and one of my hard drives became totally corrupted.
I thought that my PSU had gone out but the machine still powers on and the molex's all CHECK out with a multimeter.
When I power my machine on all goes correctly. I get the Post Test Beep thing that SAYS everything is ok (1 short beep), but then, after the memory count, it freezes, and I cannot continue. I can't even get into the CMOS Setup.
System Specs are as follows: AMD Sempron 3400+ (S754) 1GB (2x512) Kingston RAM Gigabyte GA-K8VM800M Mobo 1x 8GB Western Digital HDD 1x 30GB Unknown Brand HDD 1x 40GB Maxtor HDD 1x BenQ Combo Drive
If any of you have any ideas as to why my drives won't power on please share them, all help is appreciated.
In you need any more info just let me know and I will be glad to get it for you.
Thanks again in advance.Unhook all but the primary drive and see what happens. How old is the CMOS battery? If that doesn't work unhook EVERYTHING except the RAM and video and see what happens.
What are the details about the power supply?Unplugging all but the Primary Master didn't work .
The CMOS battery isn't too old, just over a year.
Specs of PSU: 450W Max Output +3.3 +5 +12 -3.3 -5 -12
Again, thanks for the help!
EDIT: I just unplugged the power from all drives and the Post Test no longer freezes after the memory count.Bump.I managed to figure the problem out. Turns out that the IDE Cable ATTACHED to the secondary CONTROLLER was bad. Just replaced it and now everything is working as it should.
Special thanks to Zylstra who helped me with this problem.
