Solve : Dropped Laptop Cant get past Window Error Recovery Screen? |
|
Answer» Hi I have a Dell1720 that was on when I closed the lid and layed down my COFFEE table a BIT to hard I guess, when I opened it back up it was frozed so I held in the power button in to restart. It begins START-up and manages to make it to the Windows Error Recovery screen with 2 options normal start-up and Start-up Repair but both will just return me to the same screen. I figure its my HD but didn't know if it can be SAVE or at least maybe my data. BTW F2 and F12 boot still work on start-up. I tried to start up in safe mode but it just takes me to the same Error screen. Its Vista OS btwQuote when I closed the lid and layed down my coffee table a bit to hard I guessCan you explain what happened in more detail? If it's the hard drive and you have no recovery disc (CD or DVD), you can probably order one at a fairly low cost from Dell so that you could install Windows on a new hard drive. Of course, this still won't recover files from your old drive; you may be out of luck there. Im trying to say that my laptop got bumped pretty good when I layed it down on the coffee table as in POW, BodySlam, and BOOM1 option: Grab one of these... 2.5" Laptop to IDE converter...'bout 8 bucks. This will enable you to hook up the drive to a working Desktop machine to retrieve your data...providing the drive still works...ok Im gettin ready to order a new drive now so in your opinion should i even mess with trying to run in of the options in the boots screenit sounds like the drive is still spinning without any bad sounding noisesQuote from: patio on May 01, 2010, 11:41:15 AM 1 option:is this the right one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812119245&cm_re=IDE_converter-_-12-119-245-_-ProductOther than acting in the manner that Patio has suggested (this to enable --maybe--the recovery of the data on your HDD) i believe you to be acting prematurely to be ordering replacement parts until you have a better idea (knowledge) of exactly what is the problem.truenorth |
