Solve : Dual Channel DDR1 SDRAM?

Answer»

I purchased ONE 1024MB (1GB) DDR SDRAM PC3200 to upgrade my 512MB memory only to find two X 256MB DDR's in DIMM 1 and DIMM 2. They say to buy in pairs of same density. Can I also remove the 256 from DIMM 2 and simply leave the 1 GB in DIMM 1 or does DUAL channel require both slots to be occupied?Dual channel does require both slots to be occupied, but to be honest, with RAM under or at 1GB dual channel isn't going to help muh when you are still USING the HDD for lots of virtual memory.

Keep a 256MB STICK and the 1g stick, putting the slowest stick in the first slot, eg if the 256MB stick is only DDR 266, PUT that one in slot 1.
